Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport is an airport that has a long history since it was founded for the province of Riau, this service once it is not as grand as today.
In 1960 the government operates this airport into the airport pioneer by the name of "Airports Simpang Tiga" name was taken because of its location at the junction of three roads that the road to the municipality of Pekanbaru, Kampar and Indragiri Hulu.
On 1 April 1994 Simpang Tiga Airport join the Management managed by PT Angkasa Pura II and changed its name to airport Sultan Syarif Kasim II.
In 2009 the airport Sultan Syarif Kasim II (SSK) start the expansion of the airport and construction of a new terminal that is prepared as an international gateway and welcomes national events Riau PON XVIII in 2012 and the Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) in 2013.
